TechLoss Consulting & Restoration, Inc. was brought in following a snow storm that resulted in heavy snow blanketing the insured’s entire region. When the weather let up, the insured determined their approximately 40 reverse-vending machines had been contaminated with snow for multiple days. We performed an on-site inspection and determined although the external surfaces and some of the internal surfaces of the units were contaminated with snow/water, the units were built to withstand the elements as they were regularly installed outside of grocery and retail stores. It was determined the units could be cleaned and tested in order to return them to full functionality instead of requiring replacement, which reduced the claim from over $550k to less than $100k.
